In a week without our illustrious leader the comp managed to survive and maybe even thrive in his absence. A record 24 tipsters finished with a positive outcome, no doubt resulting in many pats on the back and other private celebrations.
It was the win by Militarize that caused all the cause for celebration. A total of 20 tipsters had a piece on the Group 1 Club adored colt. No doubt some insider knowledge helped sway their tips. Militarize’s win, however, lead to Sim applying his dreaded curse which, unfortunately for connections, will see Militarize never win a race again. Come on Sim and sorry Rod.
The celebrations for most ended their though. But not for Turtle and Wardy who both found Alligator Blood with their green note after maximising on Militarize as well. They shared the honours of of tipster of the round with a total of $946, closely followed by Benny O’Brien who had $50 on Militarize and $100 on Alligator Blood.
In arguably the most importance tip of the round, tipsters couldn’t split the Bont and Daicos for tonight Brownlow medal. In a rookie error, however, I didn’t make the tip compulsory, and as a result too many tipsters hid in the shadows, too intimidated by the magpie army to voice their own opinions. I guess we’ll just have to sit back tonight and find out for ourselves.
Merc will still be missing for most of next week, so I’ll be back again to inspire more positive results and get this comp pumping. See you next week.
